Moving to Melbourne

We have received our Visa's and intend to arrive in Melbourne early 2006. Our 19 year old daughter however would like to travel to Melbourne now (we have activated our visas so this would be possible). Can anyone provide any advice on how she should go about finding accommodation and work, preferably before she travels. We are a bit concerned as she doesn't know anyone in Melbourne so would be very much alone. She would like to stay in a suburb fairly near the city centre and would be happy to do most jobs but preferably admin. Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

There are a few people around who could answer your question better than me.I have visited Melbourne a few times but not looked for work in the city itself. If you don't get a reponse from this forum try going to:

its a site for Brits moving to, or who have moved to Melbourne. There are people on there who work in the city and live in the suburbs nearby.

This site will give you excellent information, this will 'bump it' up near the top again. I'd reckon you find a job first and the accommodation next. Inner city would be fine for the latter because most of the former in the admin area will be here.

Try for starters:

Also have a look at BritVics which isn't a drink but a forum for Brits in Victoria:

Thanks, Helinuk suggested the latter. I'm going to look at them both, thank you.
