Default Moving back after 12 years

Hoping to move back next year but what changes will I see in the last 12yrs? Will be hoping to live in the Yarra Ranges.
I am hoping to transfer through work but my daughter will need to find employment. She will be a graduate with an animation degree and wants to work in a film studio. This is my top priority.
I am very worried that on just my salary of approx $65K We will find it near on impossible to cover costs.
Last but not least hoe easy is it to find cruelty free products?
All advice welcome

On what visa will you be moving back? Is your daughter a citizen or will she be a dependent on your visa?

You'll probably find it very hard going on less than the average wage I would think. You'll notice quite a few changes, not necessarily for the better. There are a few animation jobs advertised on Seek which would be a place to start.

My daughter will take on any full time job to start with as long as there are opportunities to move into work in a film studio. This is our main reason for the move as the only jobs around us will require commuting or living in London which is impossible on the wages offered.
What household income level would we need to live comfortably and rent a 3 bed modest place in the Yarra ranges??

You need to think long and hard about this. As a Melburnian of near on 40 years now. If your daughter gets a job in the CBD she'll likely be travelling 3 hours a day... 90 Mins each way. Just mentioning that because you talk about UK commute times. Then theres the big unspoken thing about looking for smoke towards the east from the CBD everytime the temperature rises above 33 degrees and is windy.. its not if there will be a fire in the yarra ranges but when. Unless you make sure you are well away from the treeline. I reckon you'll need an absolute minimum of 90K plus to live comfortably... Best try make it 110 plus really. Sorry for the slightly neg response.

Thanks for the honesty. I remember your help last time I moved out and it was beneficial then. We lived in Sassafras last time which is where my girls were schooled. Happy to move back to either there or Emerald. My husband is an electrician and is hopefully moving with us. My oldest is now looking to come back also when she fully qualified as an accountant. I am just worried as they have heard from old friends out in Melbourne that it's nearly impossible to leave home as cost of living is so high and employment is hard to find. I really don't want to see them struggling to get on the housing ladder and live independently.

Made a mess of inserting answers into your quoted post but hope this is clear enough:

She will be a graduate with an animation degree and wants to work in a film studio. This is my top priority.

>>That's quite a niche sector - has she looked to see who around there might be recruiting? And to be very honest, if she's just starting out in her career will she want to live so far from the socialising?

I am very worried that on just my salary of approx $65K We will find it near on impossible to cover costs.

>> Not easy for sure.

Last but not least hoe easy is it to find cruelty free products?

>> Very easy. Some great online retailers too, not sure I can link here but for starters you could search for floraandfauna.

If they are on 65k yes. Walks in the park maybe. You wouldn't dine out much. I suspect the equivalent wage where you live now would apply the same rules.

We moved back to Melbourne after similar time and wish we never. Super Overcrowded, gridlocked traffic, awful transport , super expensive, crime, drugs....really changed for worse. Seriously the population growth has ruined the place. And on $65k...good luck.

Stay put.

We live in a 'nice' suburb in bayside...came out this morning to find our garden hose cut...later to find out drug users do that to make bongs.

I think it's a problem wherever you live. However after reading the above we are now looking at Adelaide 😁

Good choice....Tasmania also worth a look depending on what your looking for.
We will depart Melbourne soon as we can. 2 years back in this city has not held many positives. Yes you can earn good money but the city is designed to take it all back.

I am hoping to get a transfer with work and they have offices in Adelaide, NSW and WA as well as New Zealand. Its a shame about Melbourne as I loved it 15yrs ago and only had one incident of someone with a knife on the train late at night.
