Some of our devs in India are on the same, that's why the Indian devs get all the shit jobs. If they were any good they would be paid more, and extracted from India ASAP.

Just as many work in Silicon Valley.
India, as other developing world countries, it was a problem in Malaysia, as well when lived there, have an over abundance of university educated people , without the necessary development to anywhere nearly absorb the numbers.
More people. More competition. Other criteria kicks in to getting a job. Like family contacts/kickbacks in cash or other means/ or emigration.

What it really shows of course is the over subscription of too many people in a specific area. Nothing to do with being any good. Not sure what you refer to. Many thousands of people from The Sub Continent work in IT in Australia.

With more people you often have more greed too. Silicon Valley is the best example how people try to rip off people until your salary is worth nothing.

Regarding Silicon Valley. This is a good article what can happen when there are apparently so many high paying jobs https://www.theguardian.com/technolo...d-feeling-poor

Another tech worker feeling excluded from the real estate market was 41-year-old Michael, who works at a networking firm in Silicon Valley and last year earned $700,000. Sick of his 22-mile commute to work, which can sometimes take up to two and half hours, he explored buying a property nearer work.
“We went to an open house in Los Gatos that would shorten my commute by eight miles. It was 1,700 sq ft and listed at $1.4m. It sold in 24 hours for $1.7m,” he said.
$700k and he is too tight to invest in a $1.7mill pad. Give me a break. He should be setting his sights on a $3mill pad.

Yet in the USA, $1.5m still buys you a house in the Hollywood Hills amongst the celebrities. Or a stunningly large mansion in cities like Dallas.
I mean a house of that value in the USA is extremely expensive and not the norm outside of a tiny amount of locations (Manhattan, San Francisco etc)
And $700k might be a good year, might have been a good bonus or contract. Still, I read he accepted half of that to relocate to San Diego - that's a seriously good lifestyle to be living there on $350k

But that's distorted at both ends. We actually have Australians that think $1.5m properties are the norm and that's what an average home costs.

And salary has not much to do with it. The problem in San Francisco is the supply-side, there is not enough housing to meet demand due to various restrictions and zoning.

they get fired regularly.
I expect the individual in question has awoken to the insanity of it all and come to an alternative self realisation.

You should read the article, it specifically says he moved out of San Francisco to accept a role in San Diego where he can afford the lifestyle.

If housing is half the cost of San Fran, after mortgage and day to day cost of living he is still going to have more money in the bank in San Fran on a San Fran salary as he has more disposable income.
Of course if he maxes out his disposable income in either location its a no net gain.
But he doesn't want to do that as he is quibbling about 1.4 on a 700k salary ...... no where near his max.
He's not really doing himself any financial favours moving to SD.

I dare say you probably would. Problem being the swagger and opulence comes in spades in the banking/financial industry, but the culture is short term.

The Troub has trumped you yet again. /Its called knowledge of the subject referred to. If you only read the segments that appear to endorse your point of view, you will never arrive at a thought out conclusion to support your statement.
It will always be and remain sound bites. Nothing more.
