Default Movers question and I just no that one of you will know the answer!!!!!!

We have got a couple of removal companies coming on Monday to give us quotes they are Doree Boner, John Mason and a little local man who was fantastic when he moved us in to this house!!

A while back, actually I think it was quite a while back there was a thread about things to ask when they come to give you a quote and try as hard as I have I cant find it!!

Anyone know where it is pleeeeeeese??

If not then please let me know questions I should be asking them to ensure I got everything covered!?!?!?!?!? I remember reading about hidden costs etc when stuff gets to Oz or something??!?

Make sure that they look at all of your items that you want to take with you, we have had whites and co, pss and john masion around. still waiting for the quote back from whites as they say that there is a computer fault in the office Anyway, they said that these things were not allowed; sheep skin rug, garden items with rust on, cat scratching posts, wicker wash basket and our dining room chairs as they have a wicker seat pads. They said that you can take wicker but customs will inspect it and if they want to clean it, its about £50 per item, our chairs not even worth that so they are getting sold!! Ask about the charge for inspection at that end when your container lands as they charge by the hour! Hope this helps, Pete

We used Allied Pickfords, they were outstanding and did a superb job, not even a broken cup when our stuff arrived in Perth. There were no hidden costs, the only thing to beware of as far as I am aware is push bikes and garden tools, if there is so much as a speck of soil on them Australian customs will charge you a healthy fee for cleaning them. There are several pests they are trying to keep out of Aus, so go a bit over the top on soil and dirt on things.

We didn't clean the oil from the chains, but the rest of the bikes were spotless and disinfected with the special disinfectant.

We also bought a small sheepskin rug and 4 wicker seat tops which were all stuffed into our wicker washing basket. They didn't touch any of it, but of course it's luck of the draw. The only things they inspected were garden toys and shoes.

Also, our packers were not too good at their descriptions and it seems that this went in our favour. All my hubbies work tools were packed in a box of toys that got through immediately, but his actual household tool box got held back for 6 weeks for further inspection. He also bought some building profiles, but it seems the packers thought they were part of the bed frame, so again, they were passed no problem !!!
