Move to send migrants bush
Todays Newspaper Headline:
Move to send migrants bush
Courier Mail
THE federal Opposition is considering a radical plan to force 45 per cent of new migrants to settle in regional areas.
This would ease the strain on Sydney and Melbourne, where more than 60 per cent of all migrants currently settle; and would also serve to increase the populations of South Australia and Tasmania
>
>
Of the 151,046 permanent migrants to Australia between July 2001 and June last year, 37 per cent settled in Sydney and 25 per cent in Melbourne – but just 7 per cent in South Australia, Tasmania, Northern Territory and the ACT combined.
etc etc (they didn't mention Brisbane !!! )

What are Latham's chances of being elected?
62% of recent permanent migrants to Sydney and Melbourne - as said, not reflected on this site (or the new life down under program).
I wonder if this is why they want more to go to 'Tassie'?

It's strange here that EVERY state gov is now controlled by Labour but the national gov is controlled by the conservatives (lib & Nat alliance).
Howards a wiley old bird and he was heading for oblivion just before the last election until the Tampa refugees made headlines and he played it for all it was worth, whereas labour couldn't decide on a coherent stratagy, without being labeled a soft touch on refugees by Joe public.
That one issue cost them the election. IMHO

I'd say less than 50%, but his approval rating has increased markedly since he was elected opposition leader a few months ago.

So they only want 5% of this country-bound group to remain in Oz??
