Move to OZ
Hi All
Myself, wife, 2 children & Bulldog are hoping to move to Australia in the near future and would be grateful for any advice/info.
I am a 39 year old utilities site manager that was made redundant 8 months ago and the wife is a 47 year old registered nurse working at the moment.
I think we would be better having the wife as the main applicant as even though she is over 45 nurses are on the critical list + we have got a family member that we could use as a sponsor if needed.
We are not sure where to go yet maybe Perth or Melbourne.
We've done some homework on the immigration website but all still seems a bit daunting so any advice on visa's,cost's,temperatures for the dog ect would be very much appreciated.
P.S what would be the benefits of using an agent ?
Cheers
Jake

Being that your wife is a nurse you may find the empoyer sponsored route easier. It depends how soon you want to be there.
Im a bit of a form'aphobe but managed the online form and uploading the documents pretty easy.
I may be wrong but it would be up to yourselves to do the leg work with the nursing registrations etc so apart from advice on things you may find it just as easy and a lot cheaper doing it all.

Thanks for the swift reply
We were hoping to avoid the work sponsorship route as we don't want to be tied in to an employer, this is why I thought we might be better off using an agent.

You can still get out to Oz though even if you are over 45yrs old. Best to seek advice from an immigration agent and nursing agencies like Tonix.
You may not get PR easily, but my friend who is older (by10 yrs) has got out there, not on a PR visa but is out there now. Has been there for over three months and is seeking her PR now; her employer is sorting it all out. She has a wealth of experience as a nurse and has managed it! She is loving the life!
Good luck, it can be done!

Just re-read your original post.
You say you have a bulldog, you should check out the rules on flying them out. I may be wrong but I think there are restrictions on them.

An agent can help to ensure that you are applying for the right visa in the first place. However they cannot get you a visa if you don't meet the criteria, nor - contrary to popular opinion - can they speed up the process!
I reckon this forum is about 50/50 these days with using agents - but remember most agents will also do a partial service, they will check an application before submission, or just help with a skills assessment, much cheaper than the full price, if you are just unsure on a few things.
Main thing to ensure is that whoever you use is registered with MARA, and if you search the forum for MARA agents you will find several of them post on here - including (in a totally random order!)
Alan Collett, George Lombard, Susan Wareham McGrath , and Steven Dickson.
There are also many others though, Ian Harrop is a company often recommended, and Peter Bollard is acknowledged as a specialist in medical issues.

Think very carefully about which visa they offer to sponsor you for. Many employers opt for the 457 temporary visa with perhaps an offer of sponsoring for PR later. Some people are happy with this, but if it were me, I would want the certainty of going out on a PR visa particularly as you will never qualify for PR without the employer's help. (Unless you qualify of course).

It's ok the dogs teetotal
Anyway thanks for your valuable info looks like due to the wifes age,not wanting to go down the work sponsor route and my occupation not being very well defined on the sol an agent could be the best bet.
Will try to speak to an agent and let you know how we get on.
