I'd say it depends what state you're going to... you have to register it to the state you're going to and they are all run differently

QLD - http://www.transport.qld.gov.au/
NSW - http://rta.nsw.gov.au/
VIC - http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/

sorry I don't know who the other transport authorities are...

Try www.dotars.gov.au you can download the necessary import forms from there. You will also need to get an export certificate from DVLA, your shippers should be able to advise you on exactly what you need.

If your motorcycle is under 15 years old you will have to pay duty so it may be worth looking into whether it is worth taking. We took bikes older than 15 years and still had something to pay but certainly no where near the amount if they had been younger.

I emailed the Department of Transport who were very helpful and told me exactly what I needed to do.

To be honest they cost us a lot to get them there and then before my hubby could ride them we were going to have to have compliance plates etc fitted and the bikes had to be taken to the transport office for inspection but they are not allowed to touch Australian soil until all this is done, it was going to be a lot of hassle and as we had already decided to come home they remained in their crates , but hubby said even if we had been staying he would have wished he hadn't brought them.

If you want any mre info let me know and I will hunt out all our papers etc.

by the way we were in Brisbane
