Motorcycle Tests In Oz

Anyone know anything about them? Costs, difficulty etc? The UK tests are becoming stupidly hard in Oct and expensive so am looking to either do one in the next few weeks or wait until I get over.

Ayup Steve

Here's a link to the RTA website in New South Wales, looks like you have to be a learner for 12 months before you can get a full riders licence.

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/licensing/...cle/index.html

I passed my test (years ago) in UK and thats valid over here, would've read through all the info for you, but its late now and Gin+Tonic and RTA rules don't sit well together.
From what I did read, its probably better to do your test in UK, but that may not be the cheapest way and there will probably be different rules depending on which state you're moving too.
Hopefully there'll be someone on the site who's got a bit more info for you.

That seems pretty self-explanatory but what does it mean by "declared area"??

On the site it just says "in an area with a training centre" but it doesn't give a radius from this centre...

I love the way you can ride a 250cc on a learner and a 650cc on a provisional :)

I would join a bike club once you get here , make friends, learn and do their course.

sub 650 is just about right for city riding, 250 is a little light on, and anything larger than a 750 may be too heavy to pick up if you are on your own when you drop it, and drop it you will eventually.

and don't forget the old "eyes in the back of your head" rule, it goes more for here in SYD than London.

in Victoria you have to get your L's first by sitting a 4 hour theory session, tne a 32 multi choice quiz which you have to get 70% odd right. Easy.

THen you have to prove you can stay upright, find your horn, indicators, ride slowly for 10 metres, turn left, turn right and stop.

Then you get to play with the cars on a 260cc max.

You then have a minimum of 3 months or a maximum of 15 months to get your proper license. Slightly more involved test - you have to go around some cones. Then you are allowed to play with the cars on any bike you fancy.

Whilst on L's it is zero blood alcohol and no pillion for the first year of your proper license. Get done for booze on the bike, you lose your car license too.

Interesting, is that the same for L plates who only drive cars or is it specifically at bike riders?

And were you one of the thousand riders down the east link this morning/afternoon?

Driving back from sorrento is was a huge traffic jam coming down the frankston highway from the east link. And loads and loads of bikes.
