Motorbiking in Brisbane/qld
Hi,
I've held a full uk car and motorbike license for over 20 years. I see that to convert to a qld lic I need to take the practice test and some extra questions for the bike part. I've got a couple of questions ?
Do you take the car and bike as a signle test to convert or do you take two separate tests ?
When I've been in OZ I've never seen that may motorcycles ? Are they common ? do people use them to commute in, is there motorcycle parking in brisbane like in london ?
Thanks... Ian

Hi there,
you do it all at the same time they just add another 6 questions to your test paper.
Hope this helps

Indeed, they do just add on 6 more questions onto the theory exam and then your licence is an open for cars and bikes.
As to biking, there are plenty of bikes but not as many as in London for example. There are bike parking areas which are free of charge in the city. Be careful though the Brisbane driving habit of undertaking, following so close up the persons rear that its not funny, and generally being in a driving world of your own with little respect for anyone else can make it more than a little fun :scared:
Oh and you'll see plenty of idiots riding in tshirts and shorts. Which is complete madness given the state of some of our roads which are a lot poorer than the UK (potholes, long periods of dry and then mega wet causing the wonderful sliding effect etc).

Thanks... I've certainly seen some of the roads, and have come to learn that rough surface means a completely different thing in OZ.. like a six by one foot hole in the tarmac

Re: Motorbiking in Brisbane/qld
I went thought this a couple of months ago.
The driving license is basically an exchange, with a multiple choice test attached to it. There is a seperate bit, which are extra questions for the motorcycle part. I thought it was 10 extra questions but could not swear to it. First time, I passed the motorcyle questions, and failed the main test because I got questions wrong about priorities at junctions with various combinations of roadsigns, road markings, etc. I went back the next day and retook the main bit, passed it, and got my licence.
There is a book, which is like the QLD version of the highway code which is the one to read. It costs about 12 dollars from a news agent, but it is possible to download it from the QLD transport site.
And I have to say that I'm still astonished when I see people on sportsbikes, wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Not even any gloves. Mind you, it is only spring here, and I'm cooking in a leather jacket.
