Default Motorbike lessons

When I get to Aus I want to get myself a motorbike. At present hear in England I only have a license to drive a car. Has anybody taken motorbike lessons in Aus? Where is best to take your lessons in UK or Aus cost wise?

I'm not sure whether it might be easier to take my lessons and test prior to moving or after I get to Aus? Anyone had any experience of this? If I take some motorbike lessons and the test over here what do I need to do in order to drive one in Aus? Would I have to take separate theory tests in Queensland for a bike and car or would the single test cover both licenses?

Thanks.

If I was you, I'd do the test in the UK before going to Oz.

Reasons...

a). you are already familiar with the highway code and rules of the road in this country.

b). It is highly likely that you will be doing your test on roads that you know.

c). I am guessing the standards are higher in the UK (higher traffic density) so observation will really be drilled into you and that might save your life one day.

I would check what the regulations are for converting a licence as (if I remember correctly) when I looked about converting a UK car/bike licence with just a theory test in NSW you needed to have had the licence for 12 months before you convert if.

Cost wise it depends on the type of bike you want to ride. With a one day CBT you can ride a little bike with L plates and be restricted for a certain number of years after passing your test or you can do a DAS course (5 days minimum depending on how good you are) where you can ride any size bike once you have apssed your test. Sorry I can't remember the costs when my other half did his a few years ago.
