Re: Mortgages!

Hi

I'm in the process of buying a new house in Brisbane, I've had to work full time for 3 month before Westpac would offer me a mortgage. I have a house for $290000, needed a deposit of $15000 and the interest rate is 7.57%, paying a minimum of $900 a month for 30 years. We're not experts in mortgages by anymeans, but we are getting a mortgage we can pay off early to save interest charges

On another note my fiance is Australian so she can get the first time house buyers grant which basically pays the government charges.

Just interested to see where I fit into your theory....

The first babyboomers are turning 60 this year. Technically that generation is supposed to be those born 1947 until 1964 or thereabouts. When I talk about babyboomers though I am referring to those born in the 40s who were going into the work force in the 60s. The ones who had the parents who had been through two world wars and a depression. They are apparently called the Silent Generation.

Of course, with the high [savings] interest rates here, that capital money can provide you with an additional income to see you through.

So, what kind of rates are available on savings at the moment?

The best rate at the moment is 6.8% with the Bankwest flexi saver or similar name.
