Default mortgage for new PR

How difficult have people found getting a mortgage when then become PR's and did you typically have to stump up a lot of cash?

hiya we got a mortgage pretty much about a month after we arrived - we put down 20% deposit and then that way we did not have to pay an insurance premium which i gather goes on price of house which can run into $1000's - we were lucky my husband hadnt started work but had a job to start the following week and they did us a letter - 20% deposit and over less questions get asked
