Re: mornington peninsula
My faves would be: check out the wineries - Redhill has some excellent ones and theres a great tour you can do on horseback as well, it's hysterical), gotta have lunch at the Portsea Hotel it's an institution, brunch and shop in Sorrento, the Hot Springs in Rye are great (in summer there are cool springs too) go for a twilight bathe and a treatment, Rye back beaches are beautiful, god I could go on and on. Oh, and theres a fab place to eat called The Rocks in Mornington.
The MP crew will be along at some point with loads of suggestions too.

Penguin parade is a bit of a rip off really. Just go to St Kilda pier every evening and watch it for free!

Hi
The Rocks is nice but the service is very slow!
If you are a pancake fan then head to Buckley's Chance in Sorrento - best pancakes ever!
The wineries are nice, we've worked at Max's Restaurant at Red Hill and Stillwater at Crittenden - both nice for a treat.
The Baths at Sorrento are also nice for an evening meal and All Smiles on Sorrento back beach is a nice cafe with a fantastic view of the beach.
Cafe Providore in Mount Martha serves the best coffee ever!
Yes, the hot springs are great - we went there after a 2 hour horse ride on the beach and was most welcoming to sit in a hot pool!
From Mornington you should be able to see all the city fireworks at NY. We didn't see the NY ones but had a great display of the Australia Day ones from Fisherman's Beach - could see Geelong, the city and Mornington's.
There's heaps to do and see so have a great time!

Point Nepean National park is good but not sure if they allow dogs (as with many national parks).
Over Easy opposite the Baths restaurant in Sorrento does yummy breakfasts.
The Historic Park on the clifftop in Sorrento is a nice spot to just chill although it can get busy because it is lovely.
Blairgowrie beaches are very relaxed too.
