There is normally a list of specials every couple of weeks - wine, beer, spirits. You can pick up the specials leaflets in store or download from the site

Anya, we used to buy our fresh OJ from Leo's in Kew. It was truly lovely.... But we also have a fab juicer - I would definately recommend you get one - pineapple, kiwi, ornge, apple.....yummy!

Hmm, Leo's an upscale deli...I didn't realise we were so posh!
Have already checked the price of the best juicer that The Good Guys sell (about $140!) but will be worth every penny. I'm a manic fresh fruit juice drinker - currently spend a fortune on M&S fresh OJ & their new fresh pineapple juice (£1.69 per half litre!YIKES!). Pineapples were cheaper in Melbourne, so that's good....

What's Leo's actually like, then?

I'm assuming I will need to go to Queen Vic market to get deli items such as ready-made chicken liver pate etc (otherwise I'll be making it myself!)

Blimey, all this is making me hungry - and thirsty!

Anya.

We saw an Aldi on our way in to Brisbane yesterday, it is due to open at the end of the month. Wish they would build one up here!

That's more like the fruit and veggies prices I'm used to back home.

Apples are about 3 times the price here in the US

Mushrooms, especially, are a hell of lot cheaper there in Australia.

I'm looking forward again to shopping a real butchers and a greengrocer again!

We are a family of 5 with one hungry Father and teenage son and two younger kids. I make 3 packed lunches a day out of our food bill here in Aus. In England we spent around 80 pounds a week on food from Asda. Then I paid 23 pounds a week on top for 3 lots of school dinners!

Out here we spend around $150-160 a week total on food, but we eat much healthier and this includes all the school lunches.
For us comparitively food is cheaper but it will depend on whether your salary is comparative!

I think this point has hit the nail on the head Tina

You have to think in dollars if you are earning dollars.

Best wishes

We pay $1.85 for 2 litres at local Fruit & Veg store.

Yes, it will be the 2 litres, but Coles now have it on special from today at $4.39, and thats the Daily Juice Brand, which is "supposed" to be very good.

Originally posted by MarkMyWords AFAIR mature cheddar cheese is about the same as in the UK (up to $20/kg).
UK Imported cheese is damned expensive here, I like Red Leicester, but at about $25 Kg, just for a special treat now !!
I choose local stuff now (especially as I eat a Kilo per week):-
Bega Tasty Cheese at $6.29kg or Mainland Tasty often available at $5.99 Kg in Woolworths or BiLo.

I agree with tinaj, the smaller local shops can be very good. As with all places, once you settle in, you slowly find the best places to shop.

When we moved back to UK, I remember my wife would always go off shopping to Harrods, but I soon got her used to Safeways

What's this got to do with supermarket prices ?

Can't we try to keep some threads normal !!

And whats wrong with a 1yr old (or thereabouts) baby using one of his hands for the TV remote control ? Yes, I did look at the thread to see what you were on about.

If you delete your above post on here, I will be happy to delete this post, and ask WBB to delete his defending post.

That way we keep this thread on "Supermarket Prices"....
