more points better in Oz

Hi all -

I've done a search and can't find any previous posts (or didn't search for the right words), but once you have the required points to pass into the Skilled Independent group (eg 115 at the moment), do more points improve your chances of being accepted?

Is there any prioritisation based on points, or is everyone treated the same once you pass the points test?

Having more points above the passmark doesn't do anything to aid your chances of getting accepted. However, it does provide a layer of protection against any possible future upward volatility in the passmark (if passmark revisions made after your applicaion is lodged are applied to existing undecided applications).

AFAIK, there isn't any prioritization based on points. Only the occupations on the Minister's list of fasttracked occupations get priority processing.

Hi Jon.

Just to add to Peter's comments - you can be extracted from the general pool of visa applications and obtain a visa more quickly if you can obtain a State Nomination - which in turn means you must commit to SA or Victoria and have an occupation that is on the respective State's skills list.

Best regards.
