The Montessori schools and programmes (such as ones at some daycare centres) are listed on their website, but there doesn't seem to be a state-by-state list http://montessori.org.au/schools/listing.lasso. I have no personal experience of Montessori with my kids. One mum I met said she felt that the Montessori her son went to included a lot of kids who were 'misfits' in the state system, so she was concerned about how her son would eventually transfer into the high school system. One dad I used to catch up had both his kids in Montessori and only transferred them to a state primary school when he could no longer afford the fees. This dad was a teacher and ended up getting a teaching job at Montessori, and he struggled with dealing with the state system, both for his kids and himself as a teacher.

I think it would be worth looking at other 'alternatives' if that is your thing, eg Moerlina, Quintilian, Bold Park Community School, Steiner, Waldorf, etc. You might find most of them listed here http://www.ais.wa.edu.au/search-school/.

Both my boys went to Montessori Kindegarten Preschools in Queensland. Both were expelled for being too "boisterous". Struck me that the parents were usually very thin and very seeerious professional people with children called Miranda, Tarquin or Alistair, and invariably turned up in Volvos and BMWs to collect them. The mums invariably wore straw hats.

.. No doubt when your kids got to the state schools their friends were all called Nathan, Tyler, Mason and Kylie.... And their parents were all in desperate need of a weightwatvhers program....

I hear what you're saying

Thanks everyone for your input. Interesting experiences from you all, I have had both my under 5s in Montessoris from a young age and its had a positive impact on both: bringing out a shy and clingy boy to be a confident and friendly child and it helped a rather over energetic girl to have good creative channels for her boundless curiosity and energy.
I only asked as the youngest is still at Montessori and wondering whether to replicate the same when we emigrate or enrol her in a local Kindy.

look for Reggio kinders as well but these tend to be based in private schools so the fees are steeper
