They then move the money to their account across the world, and from there it is deposited to your nominated account
No more fees, no hidden charges - unless you have a bank which charges you for a normal payment like a gas bill. Its just a transfer between bank accounts, it just happens that the accounts in the middle are owned by a third party.
I was suspicious at first, seemed too good to be true but I;ve been using it for nearly two years, in both directions, and never had to pay a penny in fees to any of the banks holding my accounts - including Lloyds and Abbey. On Wednesday I moved $185 from my Aus Building Society (via the net), that includes the $15, on Monday morning it was in my Lloyds account as £76. No charges to pay Lloyds. Works the same in reverse, but I don't do that as often.

(and no, I don't work for them, I just find they make my financial affairs a lot easier!
Polly, thanks. Tranzfers should at least *offer* you a job after that! Or a few FOC transactions!

Will have to look into this; in the UK, I currently bank with the Most Difficult Bank In The World (Barclays) who are convinced I am trying to launder money every time I try to move money from *my* account to another of *my* accounts.

(I blame Messrs Sarbanes & Oxley for all this banking cr*p :scared: )

Cheers
Anya.

Not used Barclays for many years (hiss spit!) but I have done transfers out of Abbey and Lloyds, via tranzfers.com, and had no problem. You just set it up as if you were moving it to another account - sort code/account number stuff. I think the trick is that because it moves from (eg) Lloyds to Barclays in London, rather than to an Aus account, your bank are none the wiser about the money eventually leaving the country. The movement between countries takes place between two accounts owned by tranzfers - Barclays & Westpac - hence your banks are only aware of domestic movements. (does that make sense to you?).

Give it a try. And if you have any doubts, email the guys at tranzfers, cos they were very helpful to me when I first started using them. (maybe I should ask for commission!!!)

Polly, you're an angel. Ok, well perhaps tranzfers are a loveable bunch of corporate angels. I might have to go and find a new brick wall to bang my head against!

Another 2 options:

Commonwealth Bank Migrant Account. Set up the account before you leave the UK and you end up with 2 accounts - one in UK and one in OZ. Transfer funds into the UK bank and it is automatically sent to your OZ bank. Commonwealth is an investment bank so has the FX facilities to trade directly at preferential rates. Website is http://www.migrantbanking.co.uk/

The other is http://www.hifx.co.uk/.

Tranzfers looks good - on the sign-up page there is an option to specify the account username of the person who referred you. Will it give you extra credits or something Pollyana? I'd quite like you to benefit from your wisdom if that is the case.

cheers

p.s. Just checked the "tell a friend" page and it says this:

"We know your friends and associates will thank you for helping them to save time and money by using Tranzfers. Tell your friends about us and for every new referal you make that registers and completes a tranzfer, your next tranzfer will be free of fees. Refer us to your friends using the simple form below:"

Yeah, I do get a free transfer if you sign up, though I hasten to add that isn't why I've been referring people to them! They really do give a good service. If anyone who would like to give me a free transfer however, I'd be very grateful - I have some expensive eyecare to pay for next week

I think you can work out what my username is!!!
