Money transfer companaies - recommendations please

Hi
Starting to think about getting our pounds into dollars and wondered how you have all done this. Did you go through a company or the bank. Any help would be great.
Cheers :)

Or there is http://www.sterlingexchange.co.uk/ - a bit smaller company but often offer more competitive rates than some of the bigger exchange companies and no charges at all.

Hi,

Try www.moneycorp.com

They can set up an account for you and are specialists in money transfers and will give you better rates for large deals. You can also lock into an exchange rate now for the future at whatever time you wish. Compare the rates of say 3 companies and make your choice.

we use tranzfers.com but i think there owned by ozforex,we've had no problems with them and it's a flat fee of £7 unlike barclays bank which will try charging you about £30 per transaction

Recommend Ozforex - free transfers and open 24/7 (except weekends). Always gave me a better rate than HIFX. Don't forget to register early with all FX co's - it does take some time...

I was recently advised that HIFX was better than Ozforex due to fees - not sure which company to go with any advice??

Cath

We're registering with 3 - HIFX, sterling exchange and moneycorp and we're going to get quotes of all of them and play them off against each other.

We're using Ozforex, can't recommend them enough.

They don't have any fees.

I would advise registering with both and see who comes out best when you are ready to change your money. :)

LOL, all companies have fees of some sort even if they are hidden in some way otherwise they would go out of business. If one has a fee and one doesn't you can bet your bottom dollar that the one without the fee has a lower exchange rate :D

What I meant was there is no set fee. Of course they have to make money somehow, it'd be a very bad business if it didn't :D

Just got a quote now,

interbank rate of 2.48036 - exchange rate of 2.4690 Not too bad IMO :)

We used HIFX in the end. Just kept checking our banks rate and HIFX rate and on the day theirs was the best so we bit the bullet and went with them.

Ozforex.

They have been excellent, I keep e-mailing and phoning with really stupid questions, and they are really nice.

I've put in a limit order with them for this week, so if the rate hits $2.50 they have been instructed to exchange my money. I will be offline while we move out there so wanted to make sure we got the rate we wanted if it came up.

On the $2.50 we will get a rate of around $2.48800
