Hi all,

It's almost 2 years since I joined British Expats, and probably more than a year since I became a moderator here (I can't remember when I took on the job, really).

Some of you might have noticed that my daily takings here have dropped to almost zero since a few weeks ago. I'm wondering if you all think it's time for a new (or perhaps additional) moderator to run things here on the Australia/NZ forums?

Regards,
Peter

Sorry for sounding thick, but what do you mean by your daily takings have dropped to zero?

Far be it from me to give praise as I'm not into the lovey-dovey stuff but you have done a great job as moderator. :)

Am i correct in thinking that you are more occupied with your life outside this forum these days ?

I think an additional moderator to assist you would be an idea.

Just to assist, not instead ! :)

Sorry, I guess I wasn't being totally clear.

What I meant is that for the past few weeks, I haven't been posting as frequently as I have been in the past. In fact, I don't find myself posting more than once or twice a day!

It's a tough job and I guess someone's got to do it. I've always been impressed with the way you've managed to provide a balanced viewpoint. If you think you would like assistance - or, indeed, feel it's time to move on - I'll go with your judgement. Whatever, best wishes for the future.

ABCD,

Nothing ground-shatteringly morbid has happened in my life recently, thankfully. But yes, migration does take the wind out of you in a sense. Applying for it was the easy part, as I keep telling everyone.

Hi Peter,

It's a little difficult to vote in the poll as I would vote for an additional not an instead of. Perhaps rewording the poll would give a better view of what people would like.

Thanks Alan.

It's been a so-called tradition here - where the moderator would be "sacked" after he/she finally migrates. I have, so perhaps my time is up? :D

Don't worry Lindsey, I won't ban people for voting "yes" as much as Blair would jail you for voting "no" for the EU Constitution :)

The options have been expanded.

Pt
I have only seen good and valuable advice from you on this forum.
I would like to see you carry on. If you need help then that would be a better option than packing it in altogether.

Best wishes whatever you decide.

PT I totallly agree with Adelaide. Please dont go - maybe you need to get yourself an assistant.

I'm going anywhere - I just think I have some non-BritishExpats issues to attend to at the moment.

BTW, there's a new moderator in town, so please welcome him with the usual "report post to moderator" or the PMs about something not working. We need to do our bit to make him feel at home :)

PT glad to hear it! I was going to suggest JAJ on my last post :D

EssexNobby Apr 25th 2004 7:34 am

Well PT, I'm sure that everyone on this board will agree that youve done and are continuing to do a great job in keeping this forum going in a straight line, and that can't have been easy ! :) This forum provides a huge amount of value to the members and it's thanks to the unpaid effort of people such as yourself that we can use this as a place to share information and meet new friends. :) :) :)

I'm picking up vibes that maybe you yourself think that it's time that you handed the baton onto the next runner. The tone of your comments suggest that you feel that you want a well deserved break from the moderators role and this seems to me be to a very fair and understandable position to have reached.

Maybe you can let someone else take on the lions share of the day to day work while still keeping some involvment by posting every now and then. It would be sad to see you totally lose touch with us all... :(

bondipom Apr 25th 2004 9:30 am

I hope the new Mod continues with your laissez faire style. I would hate to think that this place could become like *****:scared:

Peter good luck in sorting out your issues.

To be fair to him, we maybe shouldn't tar all the Deadside ***** Mods with the same brush. Ol' Gray seems OK.:D

That's just another way of saying that I've been slacking off :-D

Not to worry, I've worked with JAJ as moderator before, so I would think he'll do a fantastic job here.

Peter good luck in sorting out your issues.
Thanks. Shouldn't take too long. I guess I'm going through what every migrant would go through now - those of us who have done it would nod our heads in agreement.

I figured I need a break too. But I won't be away too long.

Good luck to all those waiting.

Peter

Pollyana Apr 25th 2004 8:30 pm

Peter,
Maybe its time to use the forum like the rest of us do, as an immigration support tool, rather than as "work"!!!
Yep, its stressful, but stick with it. Hope things work out for you,

sky Apr 25th 2004 8:54 pm

Peter it is very hard migration isnt it, a bit like being in free fall. I have gone through so many emotions since we arrived in nz in jan as has my hubby ... elation, extreme exhausion, shock!, guilt for dragging our kids out here, hope, misery, suspicion, anger sometimes, back to elation and right now a lack of confidence. I would hate to have the task of being a moderator aswell I think you deserve a break :) just for a little while minest ;)

chippy Apr 25th 2004 8:56 pm

I see no probs with the way this site is moderated....the last thing you need is 'thought police'.

Keep up the good work ptlabs, but if you do go I hope your successor can keep the good ship BE on an even keel. :)

mashiraz Apr 25th 2004 10:29 pm

Hi peter, Just looked in, I don't do it often.

Hope you are well, I think you've done a great job to stay wit the
site for so long.....it gets very samey after a while....

anyway let me know how you go on.
Cheers

Mash....

Hi Peter,

I don't get on the board much these days, so have only just seen this. I hadn't even heard that you had finally migrated!

First, thanks for the great work done. Like a good soccer referee, you have been there in the background without taking over. An excellent balance, and one that can be very hard to acheive.
Second, good luck in Sydney. We arrived 8 months ago and love it - I'm sure you will too.

A couple of background questions: When did you migrate? Where are you living in Sydney? And where were you from originally, and what other ports have you passed through en route to a new life in Sydney?

Excuse the stickybeaking.
