Wait until you get here especially if you will be getting a contract. Most come with a 'free' mobile so it seems silly to get new phones now

If you have a dual band phone (most modern mobiles are, your user manual will confirm or not) then that's a good start.

Depending on what make/model of phone it is you will probably need to get it unlocked from your current network. With some Nokias you can do this online with a free program. Then just buy an Aussie sim card here and away you go.
