Re: Missing UK Food/Products?
Used to miss UK chocolate ( I know you can go to the special Uk shops but so expensive) so now go to ALDI as their german choccie is better than the aussie.
Miss curries and cury sauce at the chippie.
Hellmanns mayo, birds custard powder sachets ( only way my hubby can make custard!), Branston pickle
But overall a really good CURRY would be so nice. I get my mum to bring the other things occasionally but oh for a lovely chicken tikka massala......

Try making a curry yourself, some recipes on BBC, or get yourself a few Indian cookbooks. I'd never cooked an Indian curry before I lived here - there's no need when you live in the UK. There's also those curry pastes if you don't want to get into roasting and grinding spices.

Re: Missing UK Food/Products?
Missing proper crusty bread, especially the french bread sold in Sainsburys. Bacon, ham and sausages are much better in the UK, especially Saxbys and Walls. Cadburys chocolate doesn't taste the same here, and whats with the vinegar? The tomatoes here can't beat the English summer ones, and I agree about the sandwiches. In the UK you can readily buy good basic ones in supermarkets like cheese and onion, ham and tomato, egg cress and mayo all on proper crusty bread.Obviously miss the fish that can only be obtained from cold seas like mackerel and cod.
Saying that the shellfish here is far superior, and fruit and veg other than tomatoes are of great quality.
I'm not whinging, but adapting...

It's funny really to be all the way over here and missing certain foods. Don;t miss them really just the odd occasion when you think mmmmm I could really fancy some..."curry" etc.

Whilst some supermarkets and local shops stock other nationality foods (at hiked up prices), which is good so can get a decent Bisto Gravy woohooo
We do however miss Sharwoods ready to eat poppadums, can't make the ones in the packets, they turn out rubbish.
Also miss Roast Beef Monster Munch , a good Orange Squash (unless someone can point me in the right direction), and proper smoked streaky bacon, the bacon just isn't the same
But have to say we are living a very different life now so happily go along with things being different - would we change our lifestyle now? NO WAY we love it here

Cockles and Whelks. mmm, though maybe these only taste good while standing at the whelk bar in Hastings old town.
They sell Hellmans mayo in Woolies in Melbourne at least.
I was missing decent marmalade, but Aldi came to the rescue with their one.

Re: Missing UK Food/Products?
G'day all,
I was just wondering if any of you guys out there feel homesick in regards to certain products or food that is not widely available down under?
My partner is from the UK and she misses certain British cheeses, marzipan and other products... please discuss and let me know what stuff you miss if there are any specialist english shops out there.
Pete

I have been in southern hemipshere 9 years now, 6 in NZ and 3 in OZ.
In NZ, I missed everything as I found the choice in NZ was very very poor.
Since moving to OZ...I'm happy again!
Have found lots of English stuff in the supermarkets, cheese...even British Tetleys T bags now..lol
Also here in Canberra, we have a couple of fabulous fruit/veg/meat markets which sell a lot of European stuff.
We also have Aldi...yeh for Aldi!
Now I miss nothing at all about UK, not even the foods...ok, I lie... a decent curry still hasnt been found here!!
Overall...99.9% happy then..

If you are in the Westgarth area of Melbourne I can recommend the Curry Cafe restaurant. Its probably the best I have come across.
Twiglets, my family send them over and I eat them after the kids have gone to bed, so I dont have to share. Bad parent!

LOL
My hubby hid his 2 packs of twiglets in the bedroom..lol, he ate a packet last night and took the other to work this morning.
We found them in Woollies in the asian section?
Never seen them before, we have a woolies here near home about a 2 min drive, but yesterday we went to another shopping centre about 10 mins away, and shopped there...hubby was happy!
Guess which Woolies we will be shopping at in future?

You can buy Rose's marmalade in Coles. My grandfather always had it on his toast (old school Pom; emigrated to Australia after WWII).
He was also a Bovril fan, so I know you can get that here too.
