Default Mirrabooka

Hi

Might be working in Mirrabooka at the end of the year, would appreciate any advice on what the area is like.
Also, are there any decent suburbs within a 20/30 minute bike ride of here, so
I reckon about 8 - 10 miles

Cheers

Steve

I seem to remember hearing Mirrabooka mentioned in the news quite a lot. Generally the story involves the police

Rough.

But as long as I just worked there (and lived elsewhere), I'd be happy.

I know the area well. I said in a previous post Scarbs was up for a nuking. Well Mirrabooka jumps the queue. Really isn't much going for it! Low-cost/quality housing with occupants to match in many cases and a shopping centre that has more shit hanging round the exterior than the unflushed public toilets hold inside!. High crime rate and well known for many violent incidents that go unreported (have witnessed enough myself to state that with authority). They're trying to 'regenerate' the area with new housing, but as my mate says: "Same shit, different bricks..."

Nearby suburbs include Nollamara, Dianella (live there if you find a half decent street there - it's one of the more upmarket suburbs), Balga (equally run-down and dodgy), Balcatta (more industrial than residential) and some others I've never had need to venture into so haven't bothered to learn.

Body armour, MP5, armoured vehicles and landmine fortifications are generally the way forward here. I exaggarate, of course...

And for those wandering - YES! There are some suburbs in Perth I think are half decent and would quite happily live in. I don't bag them for no reason!

I don't know much about it but from what I've seen driving through is that it's a dump.

You'll only be working there so not a problem.

Apologies, I did mean Mirrabooka Perth, should've been more specific.
Mirrabooka is one of five areas I've been given to choose from, but is the only
one in the northern suburbs (i think) so is our preference.
I have this idea that we would live a bike ride away from where ever I
end up working, say 8 - 12 miles, so mrs geordiebloke can have the car and
I can rely on my mountain bike.
Anymore thoughts on decent suburbs within this sort of radius of Mirrabooka
is appreciated.

Dianella would be the most 'decent' suburb in that area.

It's where many of Perth's African refugees live which I'm sure is just fine if they do all their tribal fighting at Scarborough rather on their own doorstep.

I'd say it may or may not be shithole but seeing as I've never lived there I'd prefer to let someone from Mirabooka comment, but seeing as this is British Expats not Somali Expats it's not likely to happen.

Hi used to work in Dianella, it's a dump, one boring shopping centre and same old boring streets, no character whatsoever and rough as, the only place I saw a burglar being nabbed in someone's front garden, druggies there too. The only thing going for it is a half decent sports centre and it is quite close to the city. Wouldn't really recommend any of those suburbs for living in. A woman I used to work with, her husband used to work as a community advice type policeman in Mirabooka and quite enjoyed it but I believe he is now a traffic cop. I think there are quite often gang feuds there. Depending on how fast you can cycle the nicer suburbs are towards the beach. Try Duncraig, Carine, Gwelup, Doubleview etc. Just out of interest what other choices were you given? All the best
