Mining industry in WA is hard to get into unless you are experienced in mining and/or have good contacts in mining industry. In WA also before even applying do a Marcsta and First aid certificate, that way your application might even get looked at. Sorry for the negative vibe but most of our friends are in mining and struggled like hell to get a foot in.

You might like Colac - out past Geelong. Close enough but far away enough if you know what I mean (from the big smoke).
I see Penicuik is just south of Edinburgh so its not that isolated.

Yeppoon has a population of around 29,000 but is nicely spread out. There are always adverts in the hairdressers windows for stylists etc. Click on the link and it will take you to the Yeppoon site. I come from Coalburn which is very small...I thought Yeppoon would be too big for us....but we love it....5 mins walk to the beach....what more do ya need

Leaving Daw Mill next week heading for Mudgee, 3 hours west of Sydney , nice town plan for 2 more mines in 2007, also big mining area at Wollongong south of sydney, Qld mines are very remote and usually serviced by a mining town 3 hours from cities, can give you contact details for several companies if you want

Re: Mining Industry
The Coal board medical will be a requirement to work any mining location,
The medical part, is alot stricter than the immigration medical, it includes a sight test, hearing test, drugs screening and a lung capacity test.
Thats the easy bit!!!!
the other part is a fitness test
you are attached to a heart rate monitor and put through aerobic exercises, what they will be looking at is your Recovery heart rate after 3 mins of steps (at a fair clip too),
a fit person recovers to 120 bpm after stopping for 60 secs, they do this for about 40 mins and test you every 3-5 mins, if you are a couch potato you will be fried by the end of this
you wont get any job in the mines unless you pass the Coal board medical.
So start the exercise now
