Question Migrate to Oz help please

Hi all,

I am trying to migrate to Oz and could do with some advice.

I am 34 years old and have been working in the IT market for about 11 years. I do NOT have a degree and no real formal qualifications.

I know that I can get my skills assessed by the ACS, but after printing off the application form I was a bit daunted.

Can anyone recommend an agency that could help me with this application?

I need to get moving quickly as I am 35 in June 2003 and my points will go down.

Many thanks to you all.

Sharpy.

Sharpy,

You might want to try wither George Lombard or Alan Collett, both of whom give their advice for free in this forum.

Thanks for the prompt reply Paul.

I have contacted Alan Collett who is sending me some details through the post.

Time to start crossing the fingers!

I'm in a similar situation. I've been in this field for over 20 years but with no
formal education. The only certification I have is an A+ from many years ago. My
most recent experiences are in networking admin/engineering.

I will be seeking a CCNA soon. Will that help at all? Is a lifetime of work
experience enough?

I just turned 39 and will lose points in a year so I need to move quickly.

I too printed off the ACS form once and found it very discouraging.

I'm not "put off". I just don't want to throw away a lot of time, money and effort
for nothing.

Would I be wasting my time on all of this? Or do I really have a good chance of
getting a PR for my troubles?

The two issues are:

ACS: Crucial to getting 115 pts.

Age: I turn 40 next year. Can I get all of this done before I then and lose 5
points?

You are better off talking to an agency. They can answer these questions (with no obligation).

Best of Luck.

The ACS assessment (for RPL) costs AUD400. I would think the effort is more 'costly' compared to the financial cost.

All you need for a valid PR application are your signed and filled up application form, the proper payment (a credit card number will do), and your skills assessment result. If you absolutely have to, sending all these things in before your 40th birthday will ensure your age points don't slide any further.

You may see a list of professional as well as academic qualification that ACS recognizes here: http://www.acs.org.au/COURS20_2.htm
