It seems that it needs one woman who is a "carrier" so to speak. Any females spend more than a couple of months in regular company with me, her cycle will join mine - Sorry, no idea why  A local playgroup had three women working together - their cycles were all different times of the month. Another lady started working there and within two months they had all moved to her cycle. A year later she left and they all became different time again - wierd.

Has to do with hormones and pheromones I suppose ;-)

However, I don't agree with 'sick' leave specifically for period pain, unless the same consideration is given to others who suffer from serious bouts of other chronic illnesses. For instance - I worked with a girl in the UK who had terrible wtaer retention, was being poked around by doctors without much success. Every time it got hot her ankles swelled so much she couldn't wear anything on her feet withou cutting the skin. The manager knew, but told her every day off would be a day lost from leave or sick leave. I had such bad skin at that time that on occasions, about once every 3 months, I couldn't walk, I was told the same. A third girl, in the same office, would phone in every month with period pain, take 2 days off, and not have to account for it, no leave taken, he filled in all the forms as if she was at work.
Its a question of fairness all round.

Snap! Even in the NHS they're not sympathetic. Suffer eczema and asthma, one year whilst decorating house, my skin and asthma were awful. I was on stacks of oral steroids (120mg per day) plus nebulisers etc etc Husband called in work for me and was told "if annie's there SHE has tell us shes sick otherwise we won't believe you?" So, extremely wheezy I called them and they said "ok, when will you be back?" My manager was so rude and unsympathetic it really upset me, so I told my GP, he was so corss he signed me off for 6 weeks flat! When I eventually got back to work (amongst all the tuts and "where have you been?", I learned that another girl had 'frequent' days off for ovulation AND period pain!!! No one ever made her feel uncomfortable about it, because it was 'personal'! Whats makes it worst is I've had 3 caesarians and get 'adhesion' pain that makes me throw up and faint! On 2 occasions I was at work. I literally had to down the pain killers and get on with my job! No one gave a flying ****!

Re: Menstrual Leave

Well, I used to be one of those women who suffered tremendously once a month. So much so, that I had a doctors prescription for a pretty little blue pill that knocked me out cold for about 14 hours.

I know that I regularly took days off at school simply because I was unable to function properly.

Thankfully, once I had my first child, the worst of it stopped and I was left with what I would consider "normal" cramps & back pain.

Still, there are days when leaving the bed seems a feat in futility.

Why aren't these women using their normal sick days for this? Last I checked, once a month is still 12 days a year and 2 days seems like a small compromise in the grand scheme of things.

Another solution is time in lieu. So you take a day off for Aunt Flo and make it up another day with overtime (or vice versa.)

Siren :D

Never trust a man who, when left alone in a room with a tea cosy, puts it on his head

Never trust a man, when left alone in a room with an iron and Foxtel sports, does the ironing :p

Union's menstrual leave push

From: http://network.news.com.au/images/h1...ouriermail.gif

UNIONS are negotiating a landmark industrial relations claim at Toyota, demanding female workers with menstrual pain be granted access to an extra 12 paid days off a year.

If the nationwide claim is successful, it would be the first time manufacturing employees would have special menstrual leave in addition to their existing sick leave provisions. Australian Manufacturing Workers Union federal secretary Ian Jones said it was common sense that workplaces should accommodate the individual circumstances of their employees.

What about PMT?? I think it would be doing everyone i work with a favour if i was given an extra 5 days off per month  :D

...

Ah yes. Those may be the ones the Doc used to give me in my teens - they were amazing. Then the Doc suddenly stopped prescribing them. I found out this was because they were, apparently, a derivative of Purple Hearts. After that, I was able to do a cracking trade in the school playground with the remaining stock.... :D

I suppose it's easy to forget the pain when you dont suffer it anymore.

I used to be in so much agony every month I'd spend at least two days in bed unable to do anything, hot and cold flushes, the works.

When I started work I went on the pill, so now only get minor pain, but I guess if I was still suffering I'd have to have time off.

It's like I always think, if men had to suffer period or childbirth pain there'd be a pain-free way to do it all now.

Just like if men had to have smear tests they'd soon find a way to make it just a "prick in the finger" blood test!!!

If women are allowed to take 3 days off every month for the pain what about the men. Some months I am scared to go home, scared to be in the same room, scared to go to bed. Do I get any sympathy or time off? What do you think?
