Default Melbourne Weather in August

After looking on the sites that detail the weather, there is a big gap between the min and max temps.

We arrive mid August and was wondering what items of clothing to pack.
We're going to have 6 weeks in the UK once all our stuff has been shipped so I want to pack carefully!

Any ideas? Are we best taking our big coats or would they not be needed at that time of the year?

Thanks.

Daytime temperatures will be between 10 and 17 degrees. Most days are sunny. Nightime will fall to as low as 3 degrees.

This is based on my observations of last August.
