Easy to get to st kilda from mornington.. takes appprox 35mins by car or if you wish a train from Frankston (55mins) to Melbourne Central.
You must get a bucketload of speeding tickets with that trip ? How often have you made that trip ? and at what time of the day.... If you can do it in under an hour (in non peak traffic), I take my hat off to you.....and you can fill it with those tickets :-) If you take the train option from Frankston, also don't forget the 20 to 30 min commute in the car from Mornington to the train station. |

Hi, my name is AnneMarie. Do you mind if i join your thread? Don't know how this all works yet. Am just starting out and hope to move to Melbourne. Have been reading some of the threads and the mind boggles. Not looking forward to the whole minefield, but think that with the help of a good friend in Melbourne and the expats website that I might be ok.

This morning it took me 1.5 hours door-to-door from Mordialloc for goodness sake! The train driver had an assistant shovelling coal into the engine I swear! Buzzy |
Re: The Melbourne thread
wow.. interested to hear that my estimation is out out according to your experiences.
I know from experieince that not exceeeding the speed limit , going on beach rd at 7.30 in the morning , it was 37 minutes to St Kilda. and that in total to get to the MCG door to door from mornington was exactly 1 hour 20 minutes... sorry for not including the travel time from mornington! Just read the map scenario... ... aint what happened when I did the route 1t least 10 times last easter! |

Tracy and jason,
thanks for the info, it's appreciated. Look forward to hearing more. How lomg has the process taken so far? We first decided we wanted to go to Oz early this year. Needed a 457 as not enough points:thumbdown: so have been applying for jobs and investigating options ever since. We first heard about this job in June this year, it has taken quite some time and lots of patience, but it has all been worth it:thumbsup:. There are lots of nurses on this site who have gone over or are going on 457’s / PR with job offers, I am sure they will love to assist with any specific questions you may have. As for timescales, it took 1 week for us to receive the written offer, so you would image one week postage back to Oz, then the visa process starts, some have received their visas very quickly and some are still waiting weeks down the line, we are just at the very start of the visa process , thankfully though we are at the end of the job hunt process. You can do Mornington to St Kilda Road in about 1 hour by car, not in the height of rush hour. Train would take a lot longer, as the nearest train station to St Kilda Road is South Yarra, followed by a tram.

From my experience on various trips up and down to visit friends on the peninsula, Buzzy-Bees update above is a much more realistic assessment.
As my trip down to Frankston (not in rush hour)from Rowville was just over forty five mins on Monday. Ah, role on the East link!!! |
