Melbourne or Sydney?????
I'm hopefully going to be in Oz next month on a 457 and therefore will be renting (furnished). I have the choice apparently to be based in Melbourne ( where our main office is) or Sydney where we have a Satellite office (but out of the loop).
Which city is the best??? (Cue Arguments).

Both great places. Melborne gets cold though, but nice and hip if you like that kind of thing.
Difficult choice............not helping much..........sorry!

How cold ?
I'm thinking about moving to Aus. I don't think I'd like the heat of the north, but
would definitlely want an improvement over the weather here in the (old) South
Wales coastline where summer last 3-4 months and the rest of the time it's cool,
damp and windy.
I could live anywhere, money's no object, so any suggestions ?
cheers, rob

For climate in the major centres of Australia, you probably can't beat Perth.
Brisbane is good too, although a little humid for some in the summer.

Melbourne is very hip, trendy probably a tad less expensive than Sydney. Sydney always has horendous traffic problems traffic and cost of living remind me of the UK. Crime boggles the mind if you worry about that sort of thing. driving through some of the suburbs last month late at night was horrid. Melbourne can be quite european, plenty of grotty bits too. Just ignore Brisbane, if heat is not for you. I disagree that summer is uncomfortable for two months, more like a living hell for 6 months or more, urrgh. I love the theatre and dining in Melbourne, but thats in Sydney too. My pick is Melb with Sydney a close second. Good luck.

Re: Melbourne or Sydney?????
Have friends that moved to Brisbane last year, well about 3 hurs away from the city, the weather was great to start off with but really got to them the longer it went on. We would chat to them via webcams and they would be drinking litres of water, their bedding was damp from the humidity when they got into bed. Now seriously considering moving to the south.
What I loved about Melborne was at night I could just meet up with friends sit in a coffee bar, trendy or not and just have a mellow time. Wait till you see the cakes you can get!!
