Is Melbourne the Sporting capital of the world?
Well I think it must be pretty damned close.
Had a great day on Friday at the F1 in Albert Park, off to the Footy at a local ground on Saturday to see Bombers play Hawks then next week off to Rod Laver Arena to see the World Swimming championships.
Later in the year Ive got the All Blacks afainst Aussies at Rugby.
For someone who loved sport but came from a tiny Scottish town this is just heaven.

A study to find the best location to hold a sports event was completed by London-based consulting and research firm ArkSports.
Twenty cities made the initial cut based on their history of hosting sports events and were then ranked by a range of criteria, including the number of annual sports events held, major events held or won up until 2010, facilities, transport, accommodation, government support, weather, legacy, public sports interest and quality of life.
Top ten cities:-
1 Melbourne, Australia 341.5
2 Paris, France 312.5
2 Sydney, Australia 312.5
4 Berlin, Germany 292
5 London, UK 287.5
6 Madrid, Spain 284.5
7 New York, USA 275.5
8 Beijing, China 262.5
9 Tokyo, Japan 255.5
10 Cape Town, South Africa 244

121 years after its foundation, the city hosted the first Olympics in Australia (and the Southern Hemisphere). It certainly has an impresive capacity for sport.

F1 today ....then this weekend and next there are lots and lots of free events around the city to celebrate the FINA World Swimming Championships.
And when Melbourne puts an event on...it's done properly

There was a thing on the telly the other night considering whether Melbourne has too many major sporting events!
The thing I like is that there's always lots of festivals and stuff as well (Moomba last week) and the major events always have other add on events going at the same time to complement.
There's also a flat fare of $2.50 for the train into Mel on a Sunday.
