Melbourne Rentals
Have finally had our application accepted on a rental so will have a house from next week.
Each time we have put in an application our rental agent in UK was charging £30 for a reference.
Be warned some agents are poor. We put an application in to a agency on the Monday morning - as the doors opened. We supplied about 20 references and showed bank statements etc (that we could actually buy the bloody place for cash). Today being Friday you would expect at least a phone call.
The receptionist claimed the property still had received no applications!!!.
The property manager was unavailable and after a week of leaving messages I had enough.
Got on the phone to the Managing Director at the Group office and after giving him 30 mins of abuse received a call 20 mins later from the respective branch manager. Apparently the landlord was sitting on the applications and wanted further offers above the asking rent (greedy sod)
In the meantime - yesterday:
We were told a property was coming on the market next Wednesday - so we drove around for a look. The existing tenant was moving out and had the cleaners in. We asked to have a quick peek and liked what we saw. We drove to the agents and asked for applications. Filled them out and took them in. They said at first there was no point as the viewings would only start next week. We explained that we had already viewed the property with the existing tenant so they proceeded with reviewing the applications last night.
Between the 2 calls from and to the #### agency our application had been accepted.
Its on the same street - garden just a little bit smaller but still good size for BBQ and daughter to run around. This one is going to cost us $400 per week the other $500.
House is still smaller than our UK house so items going into storage but hey the location is perfect for daughters nursery and school (in another 9 months).
Our container is now through customs and delivery is being made next Tuesday. Wednesday our new whiteware is being delivered. Home straight.

Well done, always makes a differance getting into your own place even if your not allowed pets or putting up pictures.
Best of luck in your new abode.
