Melbourne public high school - any view or first hand experience

Hi BE,
Just wonder if anyone has any advice on the choice between Chamberwell High and Koonung Secondary . As we've recently moved into the suburb of Mont Albert, not sure which one would be better for our daughter who is not as outgoing but is into creative arts. Thanks heaps!
Sorry folks, if you read my other thread on the same matter!:o

Do you mean Camberwell High School?

Got a book called Hobsons, the Good School Guide in front of me.

Koonung has 68% to Univ, 30% to Tafe, 1140 students (seen as very big), has 12 music options, 19 sports 16 other clubs or activities and 11 support staff. Languages are French and Japanese. 46% are girls.

Camberwell has 80% to Uni 14% to Tafe, 1220 students, doesn't stream in Maths or English, studies French and Indonesian, (Chinese at VCE) has 13 music options 23 sports, 18 other clubs or activities, 14 support staff, 30% are girls - (there are a lot of great girls schools in the area so that might be the reason - from a similar school in the area they said they'd take our girl in a heartbeat because they wanted to balance).

In Camberwell's extra information the describe a "combination of our classical 1941 brick building and the impressive new and upgraded buildings provides students with a traditional and contemporary environment of the highest standard, including VCE, Drama and Music Centres and outstanding Library and Arts/Technology Complex".

For what it's worth it was used as a stage setting in the film "Knowing" - we watched some of the filming there as my kid was an extra - great location and old buildings.

Sorry I have no personal feedback on it but hope this helps.

Thanks Flip. I got some similar info from myschool.edu.au and the schools' websites too. One of my worrries has been the high testosterone level circulating around in Charmberwell High, though it does seem to be better academically. Koonung looks more balanced! Your info is of great help "mite", cheers.
