We have visited both, Melbourne we loved as a city but not the sort of place we would live due to the "similar" climate in the weather. Can be very wet and cool in the winter months.

Gold Coast is fantastic, the weather, the beaches, the suburbs, loads of things to do for the kids etc... The Gold Coast is a definate for us.

We are moving to the Gold Coast once we sell the house....

We did in 1999 - it is not easy! I will be very honest . . . .

Gold Coast Bad Things:

-Very transient population so people not so quick to become friendly
-Drugs really bad in night clubs - tell your kids NOT TO GO!
-Lots of unemployed people
-Domestic violence and child physical abuse more obvious - seen many incidents in public areas
-Public health system stinks - had first hand problems
-You will be called a Mexican!

Gold Coast Good Things:

-Hook up with people like yourself, from another state or country and you will be right. You just need to find them and that can take time, so start looking from the time you move here
-Weather brings lifestyle opportunities you do not have in Melbourne
-Beaches, Broadwater, Rivers
-Always something to do, all year round
-Golf courses in every direction
-You can swim from September to April. We love Harley Park at Labrador.
-Although it gets cold, you really can survive without heating
-Fishing! We love that!
-Indy

I could go on. Look here for all the things you can do:

Only seen The Gold Coast, but agree with all this.

Hi, I'm on the GC and love it, if your going to look for the minuses you will find them like anywhere, but it's a fantastic place to live, year round sunshine makes it a brilliant lifestyle, its all pluses from me
