I am coming down sat / sunday to Melbourne with my wife and we are staying in centre (hilton on park). Would anyone have any cool ideas for hang outs? we like eating out somewhere with an atmosphere. Comedy is cool or bar/club type thing. you know, somewhere a 30 something can go and convince themselves they r still cool :p thnks in advance!!!!! |

There is so much to do you are spoiled.
Federation square is a good start. Transit Bar has live music most weekends. From their you can take in Young and Jacksons, who again have live music fairly often. If you like fine dinning go to the Crown Casino and perhaps go to Nobu if you have a grand to spare. Or try your luck on the tables etc. SO much to do, and so little time. |

HTH thanks also kkwall ...up for Fed Square and a pub on sat night, especially one with character (as melbourne seems to do it so much better) have heard about The Order of Melbourne & Madame Brussels too...either of them any good? Nobu...will google that one |
Re: Melbourne - cool weekend things to do?
Go for Tapas in Movida (Hosier Lane, off flinders street), followed by a few drinks on the rooftop bar on top of Cookie in Swanston Street.
Do the Eureka tower too if you haven't been to Melbourne before Enjoy! Edna |

Go the Espy day or night one of the better places in Melbourne to hang out

If you like going to bars then Melbourne CBD is full of cool bars, many of them down hidden laneways and alleys. Go to the Federation Square information centre and ask them for a brochure.
Otherwise there is a bar secrets tour of Melbourne you can do. http://www.tourism.vic.gov.au/pieces...ex.php?page=05 Melbourne is great for just wandering around and checking things out - architecture, shops, cafes, bars etc. Have a coffee at Pelligrini's at the top end of Bourke Street. It has not changed since the early 1950's when it was one of the first real Italian coffee places. Maybe it is not the best coffee in Melbourne but it is good and has plenty of character. Make sure you walk opposite Flinders Street station to a small street called Degraves Street. You can then walk through the various small lanes full of tiny bars and cafes until you get to Collins Street. Cross over Collins Street and visit the gorgeous Block Arcade. Continue through the narrow lane off the arcade and eventually you will come out at Bourke Street via Royal Arcade. The Southbank/Casino area is good for just strolling along the promenade alongside the river and taking in the view of the city at night. They have a fire display near the casino at night which is quite spectactular. Check out www.thatsmelbourne.com.au to see what is on in Melbourne when you are here. |

Be sure to wear some shoes that won't mind sticking to the carpet though. :p Si --------------------- |

Re: Melbourne - cool weekend things to do?
well, i can highly recommend the Espy. great.
also went to a tapas place called the canary club. it was nice food and massive loungey couches. also liked Cookie, pretty cool. melbourne is sooo cool, makes a change to sydney with its many niche bars. i spent a fortune though :o |
Re: Melbourne - cool weekend things to do?
Another vote for the Espy. Great on a Sunday afternoon. Another on is The Prince of Wales, also great tapas at Barcelona in Fitzroy St St Kilda.
Also have a look at Brunswick St in Fitzroy, some pretty good bars down there. Chapel St and Prahran market on Saturdays for shopping and cafes, also pretty good for night time as well. As said lots of great little bars in the city, Little Collins and also towards the top of Bourke St. Richmond (Swan St) has a few good pubs too, as does Bridge Road. |

Southbank also has a market on a Sunday which is quite good to walk by if you did not want to go further afield. However you may not be up in time. Lots of little small bars around the city which are popular with people of your age. Hotel should know where they are.
I like to eat in China Town. If you are out late stay away from King Street |
