Re: Melbourne commuting
No Pratts Bottom, Dammit, which is my all time favourite place name.

Re: Melbourne commuting
Malvern is pronounced Mole-vun. The only reason I can think is that pronouncing it phonetically sounds too much like Melbourne.

I used to drive through Pratts Bottom all the time as I lived in Farnborough - do you come from around there? I also like Locks Bottom! |

Fairly close, South east london, Around Catfprd way, Used to go for drives Through Kent a lot, Especially when I first got my Driving Licence, a very pretty part of the World. I particularly love the Shoreham Area. |
Re: Melbourne commuting
We used to drive through Pratts Bottom every 2nd weekend going up to Norfolk. We lived in Addiscombe, Surrey. :)

Re: Melbourne commuting
Yes, all those rolling hills just South of london, Known as the Downs, with their ancient chalk carvings, and little country pubs, with their exposed beams, with bubbling rolling streams are fantastic places to visit in the Summer.
Feeling a bit nostalgic today. I used to catch stickelbacks at the Chiselhurst ponds, and take them home in open buckets on the 124 bus route back up through Catford lol. I made a point of driving through that area when I visited last June, I was very suprised how little traffic there was through Pratts bottom and back into Bromley, Catford, and Forest Hill. It wasn't as frantic as I expected. |

I was stunned on that drive through Bromley then on to Catford, they call Melbourne green and leafy, I remembered that drive as being horrible, grey, and dirty, yet on the day I chose to drive through there, it was early June, the sun was shining and there were trees just everywhere. Maybe I got to see it at its best on that day eh ? |

Re: Melbourne commuting
Elsternwick...where we live is great for commuting....especially for trams and the train, which are very frequent.....CBD in 20 mins.
By car is simple too....Glen Huntly Road..then onto the Nepean Highway. Also a fab place to live.....not expensive, and loads of ammenities etc and great sense of community. :) |
