The nearest decent beaches are around an hour away North or south. If you live near a beach it will be a long commute to the city and vice versa. G |

Personally I love the outer bay beaches (white sand, shallow turquoise sea) - great for young kids  I can relax more, knowing that they're not going to be knocked over by giant waves ;) |

Having said that, there are still quite a few sheltered beaches that are great for young kids. |

I don't actually know the driving time and I am actually seriously considering a relocation to there or Brissie. How is the water in the Bay?

I think you know the answer to your question  However, for those who don't, the bay beaches are right in Melbourne, stunning outer bay beaches are about 45 mins away. Ocean beaches - I guess would be 1 1/2 hours? But of course, depends where you live in the greater Melbourne area.
