Default Melbourne Bound

I'm looking at moving to Melbourne, because from my research so far, it looks like a lot of IT jobs there.
We want to buy a small (1- or 2-bedroom) house / apartment, within a budget of 175 to 250 K .

Any suggestions from anyone out there?
