Hallam has actually been named as the next "up and coming" suburb to live as they are expecting a property boom there! Frankston has been named as the most popular place to buy property at the moment as well according to the Herald Sun yesterday.

Footscray and Coburg and Inner Urban enviornments, both of which are undergoing complete cultural change at present.... otherwise known as the slightly negative term of Gentifrication. Frankston I know very little about... so the only good thing I can say about it is it's near the beach, which for me a confessed inner urban lover is very little compensation.
Besides that fraser... I reckon Hawk was fishing, as he hasn't mentioned reasons for his statement.
The reason people from the northern subs dont go to the Eastern subs and vice versa could be summed up as follows.... It would take me over an hour or there abouts to get to Frankston, from here in the Central Suburb of Coburg. In the same amount of time I could be at Bells beach (probably the best known surf beach in Aussie, amongst surfers that is) or probably as far as Torquay.... I dont think anywhere down East compares with anywhere along the Great ocean road...... Mind you I wouldnt mind being corrected on that..... thereagain why would I want to endure the Car stressed eastern subs for even near the equal of what I have in the same amount of travelling time this side
The Monash freeway, the main arteiral road through the Eastern Subs isnt called the "great eastern carpark" for nothing you know

You could move to anywhere on a one year rental and not be too disappointed, but spend the time looking around Melbourne to find where you really want to live.

Cheltenham? I'd be happy to live in most areas of Cheltenham - and I'm really fussy about where I move as I want the best, safest area for my children to grow up!

I wouldn't live in Footscray if you paid me what a horrible place.
