Default Melbourne areas

Hi we are currently living in Sydney and considering a move to Melbourne.

Can anyone advise any good family friendly areas in Melbourne, not more than 45 mins out of the city, decent public schools (7 yr old daughter) and play areas where we could buy a 3 bed house for under $500k.

Thanks for any help.

WW
