Default Melbourne Accommodation

Has anyone got any good recommendations for reasonably priced accommodation for a month or 2 in Melbourne?

Can't/Don't want to pay the corporate rates that many places want to charge for serviced apartments or short-lets.

Well part of the problem is that I am alone, so $700 a week is a lot. I'm paying about that staying in the Mercure.

Don't want backpacker level but ideally something like student style accommodation or studio apartments sort of thing.

Dont know if this helps, but we stopped here for a few days and it was basic, clean and had all the facilities. It was good value also. If you do a search for Chelsea Caravan Park, Melbourne, it will show you the park, with mobile homes. Walking distance to lovely beach and train station.
