Hi There
Myself and my husband and kids will be moving to Melbourne over the next year an anyone tell me what suburbs around Laverton are family friendly low crime rates and around $350 rental wkly. The more I look into it the more confused I become x:confused:

Hi there,

Point Cook is near to Laverton and has some cheaper rents available if you look at older properties. Its a decent if unremarkable suburb and has everything you need at hand, its also close enough to the CDB if you have to commute. We have friends there and they swear by it.

Thank you I have been looking at Point Cook and they have some really good new property. Can you tell me if they have kids and what the schools are like. Thanks

Personally I reckon Altona. More established suburb, hence more infrastructure. definitely family friendly I know people that live there. Lots of Nurses from the Royal Melbourne have moved there recently. Get as close to Cherry Lake as you can. It's one of those up and coming suburbs.

Williamstown might be another candidate although rent would be a bit higher than Altona, point cook or leverton. Close to beach and just minutes drive from the city via the westgate bridge. If you want to live close to city, you may have a look:

Yeah good shout Altona.

Nice spot plenty little shops and cafes more character than Point Cook perhaps less choice for rentals though.

We also spent sometime in Williamstown when we first got off the boat however $350 a week didn't get you much 3 years ago so I'm doubtful it would stretch to much now.

Got to say, I'd suggest the converse. Altona is a bit down at heal, and given that rentals are generally older, they tend to be shabby. Infrastructure didn't seem to be particularly better either, and crime rate wise it seemed questionable.

Sanctuary Lakes is the better part of the Point Cook area, with more space and lots of new investment properties coming up for rental as new houses are completed. You do need a car for any part of the area mind.

The main problem for any points west is that the commuter connections (rail and road) are not keeping pace with the rate of growth. Lots more money needs to be put into it; - maybe when a new premier gets in.
