Meet in the middle-ish Holiday destinations betw Oz + UK? Ideas?
Hi guys
I have just got back from the UK (alone minus hubby) after visiting my parents after 7 yrs, (although my MUm visited 3 years ago) I'm in QLD.
Of course, they wana know when I am going back, not too soon I have promised, for a variety of issues you can imagine.
Where would a good holiday destination that we could meet in the middle-ish. We are happy doing most of the travelling as they are elderly etc.
My husband is not keen on numerous flights/stop-overs (if going at all ). So I am kinda stuck in da middle.
Any ideas?????

You could meet them for a quiet spot of tennis in Dubai, it's about half way?

We met family in Las Vegas Christmas before this one just gone, but that was still a long flight for my FIL.

West coast of the US or Canada - LA or San Francisco or Vancouver?
Approx 12 hours flying time from both sides. No stopovers necessary. All destinations in pleasant 1st world countries.

You're definitely looking at more of the West Coast of the USA as mentioned previously by Nicky... your other alternative is the opposite direction where you're looking at Dubai/Abu Dhabi.
I'd definitely had thought West Coast USA is the better option and potentially a cheaper option?

You could look at Langkawi in Malaysia, its a resort island about half the size of the isle of wight about a 30 minute flight from Kuala Lumpur. Its a duty free island which is a very quiet beach type holiday.

we did it from UK 2 years ago and flew to KL, then a 1 hr transfer to Langkawi.
Beautiful relaxed little spot without wild nightlife (def not Magaluf type place).

Thanks guys for your ideas.
Re Dubai arnt there funny rules about drinking. That you can only buy drink from your hotel? Which could work out exy.
Also, that you cant just pop to the bottle shop and buy a cask or bottle of voddy?
Cheers

As a tourist you can't buy alcohol at the bottle shop, you need a liquor license. You can drive to another Emirate and buy it illegally - everyone who lives there does it, or has illegal home delivery, but you might find that a bit difficult from your hotel room. Pretty sure you can bring it in duty free though.

FYI: 2 middle aged family friends may be coming too.
Our ideal would be a large All Inclusive somewhere, my Mum cant walk far, so it'll not be an adventure kinda holiday. With AI, with the right one we have historically found that there is plenty to do (a casino on the premises or nearby would be a bonus).
Dominican Republic used to be our Fav wen we lived in the UK (used to be cheap as chips on teletext hols, loved it), but is a real pig of a flight from Oz.

Clubmed AI in Phuket maybe? We just did a halfway holiday in Phuket (but not Clubmed) with family ranging from 18 months to 65 (8 of us). It was brilliant.......

I'll 3rd or 4th Langkawi. A 1 hour flight from Singapore (the worlds easiest airport). I was kind of expecting a bit of a Densapar rabble getting off the plane but Langkawi was easy. Straight off into a waiting cab, cheap as chips. Langkawi is lovely and very easy.
One thing to consider. I was quite surprised at the difference KL can provide in terms on nice holiday options in comparision to Singapore. KL does seem to provide a lot more - perhaps because it's Air Asia's hub.

Hi, A lot of the Hotels in Dubai have Pubs attached to them, we have stayed a few times and its a good beach holiday with other sightseeing things to do as well, its the heat you have to watch out for. Egypt is another good destination and only just over 4 hours from the UK but then again a long flight from the West Coast of Aus. Penang is a great destination, we have stayed there and there are some lovely hotels plus sightseeing as well but not really halfway from the UK, Phuket is great, are you looking at a beach holiday only? good luck
