meds i am worried
Right here goes, Mr Madsad is 5'11 i weigh 17 1/2 stone, i am a big lump of a guy but do not carry a lot of visible weight, i have a belly but i am broad across the shoulders & have big legs (muscly big brutes which i am mega proud off!!, at this point wife slaps head and tells me to get on with it) i am worried sick that my weight might fail us our medicals.
My BP has always been spot on, i cycle day in day out, no medical issues at all, still worried sick any opinions?

My understanding is that weight is not a major factor in medicals - it is more about things which will cost the aussie medical system money

You should be fine (I think) as long as you are fit and healthy.
And remember muscle weighs heavier than fat so all is not lost. Your weight sounds more like muscle weight than fat.

I was also worried that weight would be an issue in our medicals as one of us was about the same size and weight as you. All that happened was that the doctor wrote 'overweight' in a box on the form and we heard nothing more. I agree that it only if your weight is affecting your health or exacerbating a current condition. Hope this helps and try not to worry.

Hiya madsad,
I got a tick in the overweight box, but as long as you don't have any complications with ie. high blood pressure, then you should be ok.
My line was that when in Oz I'll have a different life style, with more exersise.
Bye

Don't worry about it at all!
You sound a very similar build to me, I've got big manly legs also!
I've already posted this on a previous thread, so apologies to all those who have read it before.
My height is 5ft 11" and at the medical I weighed, wait for it ...... just over 20st!
As a result my BMI was around 40, but my Dr put a note on the medical, stating that I was a "Physically imposing and physically active individual" (I think he must have been affected by my new boxers I had on )
My point is (not to sound too flippant) as long as you aren't house bound and can fit through the door at the doctors and you haven't got a kebab in one hand and a pint of beer in the other, you'll be fine!

Oh and I forgot, I've got high blood pressure as well, which is controlled by tablets!
I got my visa a couple of weeks ago, no problem!

Mate, being large is nothing to worry about. If it was, a hell of a lot of Australia would be in trouble.
I know the US is the fattest nation on Earth per capita, but I'm positive Australia is up there close.
Like other people have written elsehwere, being overweight by itself isn't an issue.
Tuberculosis remains the only issue that *will* bar you from emigrating to Australia pretty much automatically.
