Medicare & PRIVATE insurance?

My Hubby and I looked at the option of Private health insurance or just using the medicare system.
We looked at how much over our lives we would have used it and then looked at the cost. We think we are way better off just paying for what needs doing when it needs doing. Most of the time we can use Medicare for most things, but then the odd time we have to pay, its still not going to work out nearly as much as paying private insurance premiums.
Having said that, we dont have children, so things are a little different for us. But then my Sister is thinking the same as us and she has 2 kids.
