If I'd had a specialist referral, the charge would have been $500, with $200 refunded from Medicare (same practice, same procedure, same staff). Honestly, it's all such a crock!!

Re the Medicare threshold, does anyone know if that kicks in automatically from Medicare's end or do you have to keep track yourself and apply?
I'm talking about the net medical expenses tax offset that itigo mentioned...is that what you mean?

I'm also getting confused about the whole Medicare vs PHI dilemma. To be honest I find PHI expensive, the cheapest quotes around $150p/m which when you don't know how much we'll have coming in seems steep. My main concern is I know my daughter will need braces in a few years and dental cover with orthodontics alone seems to be coming out at around $75 p/m.

We definitely take the NHS for granted here

I got a bit confused (how unlike me) - I meant the scheme whereby if you spend over a certain amount, you get your prescriptions at a reduced cost. 's ok, I've sorted it out

You mean the PBS Safety Net?

I've been here over 10 years and I only just found out that the PBS Safety Net and the Medicare Safety Net are 2 different things!

I'm not surprised renth, neither seems to be too widely publicised.
