Medicare levy in the first year
Can anyone tell me if the ATO actually take into account salary earned in the UK before arriving in Oz when they decide if you should pay the Medicare Levy.
I've had a look at the tax form and it doesn't tell you, apart from saying can't calculate it yourself and not giving the `rule'.
It seems a tad unfair if they do, especially as we'll all have been paying NI during that period. I'm also confused as to whether the levy decision is made on total income (i.e. for a normal Oz citizen), irrespective of eligble deductions etc.
Thanks.
