Medicare entitlement once 856 applied for (from 457)???

Hello, Im wondering if anybody might be able to help with my query. Does your entitlement for Medicare change once the visa is applied for?? My employer has sent their application and so have I and as far as I know they are in the system somewhere. I know its been only reciprocal Medicare so far, but do I need to wait for approval before this changes to full entitlement or would I be entitled already??
Many thanks in advance!!! Rachael :)

Hi there,

I had been given to understand that once you have applied for the 856 and you receive an acknowledgement letter you can take that to medicare to change your medicare status. We didn't bother as we go to a GP that bulk bills and have never paid for anything so kind of figured our reciprocol was adequte, although when it came to it our visa was granted in 4 weeks so would never have got around to it in that time anyway :)
