Medicare
We are aware that once employed, a lot of the companies provide Medicare as part of the work package.
Does anybody know if spouses are included in most cases.
What about costs for private health insurance, any ideas on costs per family of 6.
Would this insurance cover things like dental care, glasses etc...
Cheers.

Tom & Donna,
You might wish to check the following site for information on Medicare: www.hic.gov.au
Medicare is a government initiative, and is provided to all Australian permanent residents, and in some cases, temporary visa holders or people who have applied for permanent residence. It is not provided through employers.
If you are migrating to Australia, you should be eligible for Medicare once you take up residence here. This would include the whole migrating family, and there is a certain level of coverage for dental optical etc.
In terms of private health insurance, you might wish to check some of the larger health insurance companies for rates - eg www.medibank.com.au www.hcf.com.au www.mbf.com.au
Note that the rates for private health insurance are very different depending on whether you have Medicare or not. There are discounts for family coverage, and many offer more extensive coverage of ancilliary medical expenses such as dental/optical than Medicare.
Hope this helps,
