Default Medicals...What counts against you?

When going for a medical do they count things like smoking and weight against you. Also ,after a recent post op blood clot, one member of my family applying with me is worried about being turned down.
Can anyone shed any light on this subject for me/
Thanks

Man,
when they find out about u being smoker and overweight they make u take detailed cholestrol levels, ecg, blood pressure etc....
In short they try to rule out any desease that is caused by obesity and smoking.
As they dont want the Oz state to pay for the side effects of smoking and eating too many burgers!!!!!!
Be VERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRy careful man.
Go on a diet, starve urself to death,
but dont let them catch u.
good luck mate.

Dave,
I think it's medical conditions that will be a drain on the Aus Gov.
T.B, is one of the main things that they look for.

If I was you try to get in shape and eat more sensibly and difinately cut down or stop smoking.(That's if you have time to do these before your medicals)!!!

Good Luck

Read Factsheet 22 to get an idea of the requirements:
http://www.immi.gov.au/facts/22health.htm

Unfortunately with the health requirements you've just got to suck it and see, I'm
afraid. People are too individual for general advice to be much use. What I would say
is that as long as you have no major diseases or disabilities, the chances are you
will be ok.

Ummm Not entirely true! I am a smoker and slightly overweight and was not asked to
undergo further tests at all. So long as nothing is detected during the medical
you'll be fine! But being overweight or smoking in itself is a problem!
