Default Medicals / police checks finally requested

Awesome news guys,
A couple of days ago me and the mrs sent an exploratory email to Adelaide skilled processing centre to check our application progress as our 50 weeks is almost up. Last night we got a reply that started off with "Congratulations" informing us our application has met all the necessary criteria and our medical / police requests are in the post!!!!
I was wondering if any of you guys could give me an idea how long it takes between sending off the above checks until we are granted our visa? (We applied as skilled independent subclass 136).
I know we're not quite there just yet but we feel as though we've managed to clear a major hurdle in the process so are both pretty high at the moment!!

Hope to be heading for Brizzy around about March 05 and would like to know how we go about getting together with other Expats to socialise and maybe make a few friends???

Anyway, see you all some time in the new year (Australia isn't that big is it?? )

Regards guys

Steve and Tess

It could be as quick as a week - they're not expecting problems. Some take longer I know but ours was about a week! Luckily we had everything ready to rock!
Good luck - welcome to Oz - you got it!!!!!!!!

Hi MC

So from DIMIA receiving your meds and Police checks it took a week to get confirmation of your visa?

That seems quick, or did I misunderstand something?

Gary

Actually it was 6 days and we have a 136! No, you didn't misunderstand anything.
It could have been a fluke but that's what happened - I guess every case is different but we waited the best part of a year without word then it all happened, and quickly! I suppose it depends on the time of year/case officer/their target quotas etc but listen....it could happen quicker than you think. it took us by surprise! Listen, and by God we understand this more than most..., you get used to waiting and you get used to expecting large time frames for the next stage and the next! - when they request meds/police checks you're in! It's a formality unless you're Jack the Ripper with a warrant for your arrest for robbing your local Nat West!

Hi MC

Thanks for the reply.

We sent our meds on the 23rd of October, they arrived in Sydney on the 16/17th. Police checks were sent on the 9th November. We dont know if they are there yet but have contacted our CO to see if they have arrived.

I guess that the wait is difficult and wont really believe that we are in until we either get an email from him or the yellow envelope.

Cheers Gary

I bet you'll be posting a "We got it!" thread very soon. We went through the same thing and came through it fine . Believe me, start looking into flights now - you're in! I don't know how xmas affects Dimia though - Santa could be your only real concern right now.We got our visas after new year.
All the best !

Hi MC

I love your confidence... Although as for Xmas affecting things I hope not... dont want to wait til January. What makes me think that we may hear (hopefully) before Xmas is that Tracey's (scissors) trade is one the MODL so hoping that will swing it.

Cheers, Gary

Hi Sue, sent you a PM

As for the time (I assume the mesage was meant for us), well we sent our package to DIMIA on the 13th august, they debited the credit card on the 19th (quick eh!). And I think we recieved a letter in the early part of September requesting our meds and police checks. As you know we managed to book our meds and only waited for about 4 weeks from the call to actually having them. Then a couple more weeks (October 23rd) until they posted the results to Sydney.

Hope that helps. Gary
