Medical Insurance, yes or no with who
 

Hi all, 2 OAP's moving to OZ, butwe are getting worried about Private Medical Insurance, it's another expense but is it necessary. The stress of something happening healthwise will be a constant worry, so to take the best route now willease our fears. To decide on an Insurance company what's the best way to find out, I have a couple of leads but more will help. Many thanks.

Hi, honestly the best way is to go to http://www.privatehealth.gov.au/dyna...yfeatures.aspx and put in the details for the cover you want.

So if I put in details for a couple in QLD with no dependants for Top Hospital and Comprehensive Extras with no excess and no co-payments - I get 15 options.

You can then compare the Standard Information sheets for each policy offered and determine which policy has the right coverage for you. No one is likely to be able to do this for you without knowing your full medical history etc.

I can however personally recommend Cessnock and District Health Benefit Fund (www.cdhbf.com.au) which is one of the few not-for-profit health funds and I have had great service from them. It's $227.17 per month for a couple for top cover.

I've had this advice:

If you are going to live in a city then defo worth considering if you can afford it. If you are going to live in a rual area, not worth it as the hosiptals used by teh private comapnies are the local state ones anyway.
